Students may take college-level courses during the school day at Northern Essex Community College (NECC) in Haverhill and earn both high school and college credit. Each semester-long course is worth 2.5 AP credits at Newburyport High School.
To participate, students typically need flexibility in their schedule and must provide their own transportation to and from NECC. Some courses are available remotely; students can explore available options on the NECC website.
To apply and register, students must meet with their school counselor. Counselors will help determine if a dual enrollment course can fit into the student’s schedule and assist with any necessary adjustments. Please note that dual enrollment courses cannot be used to replace required core curriculum or graduation requirement classes. The cost for one course is $540. This price does not include required books and/or materials for the course.
For more information, see: Dual Enrollment Presentation Information and NECC Application Link
In addition to submitting the NECC application, students may be required to complete English and/or Math assessments prior to enrolling in a course.
Seacoast Scholarship with NECC - NECC’s Seacoast Scholarship offers Newburyport High School students the opportunity to continue their education at NECC at no cost. As part of the Promise Scholarship Program, students receive financial assistance along with academic and personal development support throughout their time in the program. Scholars will also have opportunities to connect with peers, build professional skills, and receive guidance to help them successfully navigate their college experience at NECC. For more information, students should contact Mrs. Phelps.
