OVERVIEW- GRADES 9 & 10
Wellness Education at the high school is a two-fold program: 9th and 10th grade students have Physical Education and Health that meets the Massachusetts and National Physical Education and Health Standards. The semester will be split into two halves: Health for a quarter and Physical Education/Fitness for a quarter. The courses provide students with a physically, socially and emotionally safe environment that challenges all learners, promotes the value of a healthy and active lifestyle while providing all students with opportunities for a meaningful and productive learning environment. Students are given the responsibility for their learning and that of their peers through experiences that build on analysis and reflection.
OVERVIEW- GRADES 11 & 12
Juniors and seniors are able to take Wellness electives to fulfill their wellness requirement. This was developed to give all 11th and 12th grade students the opportunity to choose a healthy elective that they have interest in and explore healthy choices that they may go on to participate in throughout their lifetime. Senior athletes may use their participation in a Newburyport High School MIAA sanctioned sport as their senior elective.
