Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians of Newburyport High School,

Our program of studies focuses on all students being ready to thrive in the 21st Century college and career environment. Guided by a curriculum that pays attention to multiculturalism, pushes critical thinking and builds capacity to solve complex, real-world problems, our students graduate as skilled collaborators able to effectively communicate their own ideas and opinions. Our expansive and rich academic and elective offerings, allows students to explore interests and manage challenging academic studies while thinking through their post-secondary plans.

As we continue to reimagine teaching and learning, Newburyport High School is able to offer many courses beyond the traditional ones typically taken at other schools. We are proud to provide challenging academic pathways alongside innovative wellness and technical programs. As you review this Program of Studies, you will find 15 different advanced placement offerings in 5 different academic areas, opportunities to earn dual credit with partner colleges and universities, and academic pathways highlighting connections to possible careers. Additionally, students are able to further enrich their learning experience through studying multiple years of a world language and taking courses in our award winning arts and musical programs.

This Program of Studies is designed to assist your efforts in planning your course of studies while at Newburyport High School. Please use this resource to engage in dialogue and discussion about courses for next school year while considering future options. At the start of each academic section, you will find visuals that highlight pathways to our Advanced Placement, elective and portfolio opportunities. Our teachers and guidance counselors will be able to provide support as you chart curricular interests while meeting the Newburyport Public School graduation requirements.

As Newburyport High School engages in expanding more options for students, the Program of Studies will reflect any structural and/or programmatic changes that result.
