PREREQUISITE: Grade 8 Teacher Recommendation or Department Approval.

This course is designed to provide students with a working foundation in Algebra 1. The curriculum was specifically designed for students who have not demonstrated a mastery of the material studied in Grade 8 Math and/or need additional support to be able to work with the abstractions presented in Algebra I. Topics will include: linear equations, systems of linear equations and inequalities, operations on polynomials, factoring, solving quadratic equations, introduction to function notation, families of functions, absolute value equations and inequalities, compound inequalities, exponential expressions, measures of central tendency, graphs of data, as well as other topics included in the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework. This course, in conjunction with a Geometry course, will address topics needed to prepare students for the 10th grade math MCAS.
