This one semester course will review the history of the United States from the Reconstruction Era, the effects of Reconstruction policies on the lives of African-Americans, and the industrial and business expansion in the last half of the 1800s. The emphasis of this course is on the entry of the United States as a world imperial power in the Spanish American War, The Age of Progressivism, the United States’ entry into World War I, and The Roaring Twenties. An emphasis is placed on the development of analytical reading and argumentative writing skills. Cooperative learning, research projects, and alternative creative learning strategies are utilized.
