When I first interviewed at NHS back in 2005 a panel of Theatre students asked me, 'Why Theatre?' Without hesitation I stated, 'Because it’s the one thing I wake up every morning excited to do!' After over two decades of teaching, directing, and choreographing here in Newburyport, I still feel exactly the same. Each year I look forward to meeting new students, inspiring young artists, telling compelling stories on stage, and finding ‘joy in the work!’

I love teaching high school orchestra because it allows me to witness students grow not just as musicians, but as confident, collaborative individuals. There’s something incredibly rewarding about guiding them through the process of creating something beautiful and seeing their pride when it all comes together. Outside of school, I love playing violin with the Massachusetts Symphony and the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.
I came to NHS (and now Molin and Nock) with a lifetime of band playing and teaching band experience, first in IL and WI, and now in MA. I have more than 30 years of 4th-12th grade music teaching, and 30 years of Army band teaching and playing, in the 132d and 215th Army bands (these are searchable). Right now, more than ever, I’m excited for all the different levels of musicians I get to work with, and am writing brand new music for them. I can’t wait for you to hear what your children can do!
After ten years teaching elsewhere, I came home to Newburyport High School—my hometown and alma mater. By day, I work at the Molin Upper Elementary School teaching general music, beginning band, and chorus, and here at the high school, I music-direct the musical and direct the chorus. I’m lucky to work with a great team, and it means so much to share the power of music and teamwork with this community I love, helping students grow into well-rounded people who carry music with them for life.
This is my second year teaching media and video production at NHS, where I have the honor of helping students in creating live broadcasts, short films, and digital media projects. I love helping students discover their voices as storytellers while building real world production skills. Outside the classroom, I work on my own video and media projects.
