The "Spittin' CWANS"- the Newburyport High School Slam Poetry Team- won Second Place overall in the Finals of the Mass Poetry Teen Spoken Word Festival this past weekend!
The Newburyport High School Slam Poetry Team won Second Place overall in the Finals of the Mass Poetry Teen Spoken Word Festival this past weekend! Sophia Adam, Milla Baptiste, Rachel Kinney, Lucius Nelson, Vee Shields, and Calli Taffel make up the team, titled "The Spittin' CWANS".
Our students performed 3 individual poems and 1 group poem in the final round. They won the "Best Group Piece" award, and Vee Shields was the only one to receive a perfect score on their individual poem performance. In the preliminary round, Lucius Nelson also received a perfect score for their individual performance in the preliminary round.
To our high school poets, congratulations!! This was an amazing accomplishment. We cannot wait to see what you do next!
