Newburyport High School requires that all students complete 4 years of study in History.
The Massachusetts Board of Regents requires 4 units of History including 1 course in US History for all applicants to the state's 4-year colleges and universities.
We strongly recommend that students seeking admission at more competitive colleges and universities complete a minimum of 4 years of History/Social Sciences.
The History Department has implemented the Massachusetts History and Social Science CurriculumFramework and the Common Core Standards for Literacy in History/Social Studies - statewide guidelines for learning, teaching, and assessment in history and social sciences for the Commonwealth's public schools - as accepted by the Board of Education.
All students must follow the sequence of required courses listed below.
